Results of University of Arkansas Canned Food Drive Announced

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A canned food drive at the University of Arkansas collected 600 pounds of food for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. Tyson Foods Inc. has agreed to match the donations from university students, faculty and staff on a 100-to-1 basis and will donate an additional 60,000 pounds of food for distribution throughout northwest Arkansas.

A news conference will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the lobby of the Center for Continuing Education in downtown Fayetteville, to show the results of the food drive and to thank the participants.

The food drive was held in conjunction with World Food Day, Oct. 16. It was sponsored by the University of Arkansas, the Arkansas World Trade Center, the University of Arkansas Global Campus, the city of Fayetteville and Tyson Foods Inc.

World Food Day is an annual worldwide event designed to increase awareness and understanding and to inform a year-around action to alleviate hunger.
