PROMOTION AND TENURE DECISIONS ANNOUNCED AT U OF A
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Promotion and/or tenure awards for 2002 have been granted to 47 University of Arkansas faculty members, the Office of Academic Affairs has announced.
Christopher S. Hill, professor of philosophy, and Robert T. Laurence, the Robert A. Leflar Professor of Law, have been appointed to the rank of Distinguished Professor, the University’s highest professorial honor. Hill, a Harvard Ph.D., and Laurence, who received his J.D. from the University of New Mexico, both joined the faculty in 1981.
W. Frederick Limp, professor of anthropology and director of the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies, has been appointed to the rank of University Professor. Limp, an Indiana Ph.D., joined the faculty in 1979.
Distinguished professorships are reserved for faculty members recognized nationally and internationally as intellectual leaders in their academic disciplines for extraordinary accomplishments in teaching, published works, research, creative accomplishments in the performing arts or other endeavors. With the addition of Hill and Laurence, there are now 17 Distinguished Professors at the University.
University professorships are reserved for faculty members with sustained excellence in scholarship, teaching, research, or creative activity germane to their respective disciplines and who have provided exemplary service to the University, their profession or the public through professional activity. With the addition of Limp, there are now 25 University Professors at the U of A.
