Prestigious National Board Elects University of Arkansas Law Professor
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The National Academy of Arbitrators has elected Robert B. Moberly to its Board of Governors and five-member executive committee at its annual meeting in Ottawa, Ontario. Moberly, University of Arkansas School of Law dean emeritus and professor, also served as program chair for the 2008 annual meeting of the academy.
“The law school community is thrilled that professor Moberly has been elected to the highest levels of leadership of this very exclusive organization,” said Cynthia Nance, dean of the University of Arkansas School of Law. “Professor Moberly is most deserving of this honor. He is an invaluable member of the faculty, a mentor to students and an internationally recognized scholar in the areas of labor law and conflict resolution. I was fortunate to meet professor Moberly in 1991, when I was a student, and I have had great respect for him ever since. I’m very pleased that he is receiving the recognition he so richly deserves.”
Moberly’s impressive record of scholarship and service includes co-authoring two books and publishing more than 30 scholarly articles. In addition to his recent elections, Moberly has served as chair of the southeast region of the academy. He was appointed to the Arkansas Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission in 2006 and has chaired the Alternative Dispute Resolution and Labor Law Sections of the Association of American Law Schools. He also was an executive board member of the Labor Law Group and the U.S. branch of the International Society for Labor Law and Social Security.
The National Academy of Arbitrators is a non-profit professional and honorary organization of arbitrators and academics with substantial experience as impartial arbitrators and researchers of labor-management disputes. It was formed to foster high standards among labor arbitrators, and to promote the study of the arbitration of labor-management and employment disputes.
Moberly said, “I am honored and privileged to serve in a leadership position of the National Academy of Arbitrators. Its members have helped resolve labor-management disputes in the U.S. and Canada for over 60 years, and have also been the leading scholars in the study of labor arbitration.”
Moberly teaches courses at the School of Law in alternative dispute resolution and labor arbitration. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to his service as dean, he was a trustee research fellow and professor of law at the University of Florida, where he was the founding director of the Institute for Dispute Resolution.
