Planned Response to Richardson Decision

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The university understands that Judge William R. Wilson, Jr. will file his written decision in the Nolan Richardson case at 11:45 a.m. today in the U.S. District Clerk's Office in Little Rock.

University legal counsel will obtain a copy of the decision when it is filed, and Mr. Philip E. Kaplan, one of the university's attorneys, will be available to members of the media at 1 p.m. at his office at 415 Main Street in Little Rock. Mr. Kaplan will make a statement on behalf of the university and will respond briefly to questions. University of Arkansas System President B. Alan Sugg, University of Arkansas Chancellor John A. White, and University of Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles will not be available for comment.

Associate General Counsel Scott Varady will deliver a further statement at a briefing at 4 p.m. this afternoon, on the porch of the Poultry Science Building just off the intersection of Maple and Stadium Drive in Fayetteville. Any response to questions will be limited.

The University General Counsel's Office has also advised university employees involved in the case and members of the Board of Trustees that questions concerning the case should be referred to the General Counsel's Office.

This remains a matter of active litigation and it is the university's policy in such situations that the General Counsel's Office will respond.
