FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Nurses graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing will receive their nursing pins in a candlelight ceremony on the evening before university commencement. Due to the growth in enrollment in the Mann School, the pinning ceremony has been moved to the auditorium of Old Rogers High School to accommodate the more than 400 family and friends expected to attend.Graduating nurses will be available for individual interviews at Old Rogers High School from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 13.
This year’s program has been organized by the nursing students and will feature a Light of Unity ceremony in which faculty and students will light candles from a single source. In the light of the candles, the graduating students will recite a traditional nursing pledge.
The program will culminate in the pinning of the new nurses by Dr. Joyce McConaughy, a recently retired faculty member who has returned to teach some classes at the Mann School. Several students will be pinned by close family members who are also nurses. One graduate will be commissioned in the Army Nurse Corps in a separate ceremony.
Two of the graduating nurses have been accepted into the first class of the new UA master of science in nursing program, which will begin in the fall 2005 semester.
A reception in the school cafeteria will follow the ceremony. Childcare will be available during the program.
