P.A.M. Transportation Contributes $32,000 To Ua Chancellor’s Scholarship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - P.A.M. Transportation Services, Inc. of Tontitown, Ark., has given $32,000 to the University of Arkansas to set up the PAM Transportation Chancellor’s Scholarship.

Robert W. Weaver, chief executive officer of P.A.M. Transportation, said, "I feel it is important to give back to the University since many of our employees graduated from there. We want to do our part to not only reward talented students in Arkansas, but also give them a reason to stay after graduation. We are excited to be a part of the Chancellor’s Scholarship program and believe we will all benefit from it." Weaver is a 1976 graduate of the Sam M. Walton College of Business Administration with a B.S.B.A. degree in marketing.

The P.A.M. scholarship will begin with the fall class of 2000. The recipient will be a graduate of an Arkansas high school and enrolled in the Sam M. Walton School of Business Administration with a major in either computer science or accounting. He or she should have participated in community or school leadership activities. The recipient will have the scholarship renewed for four years provided he or she maintains progress toward a degree and the required grade point. P.A.M. Transportation may choose to employ the scholarship winner during the summer as an intern.

UA Chancellor John White said, "The Chancellor’s Scholarship is the cornerstone of the University’s drive to emerge as a nationally competitive, student-centered research university. This gift from P.A.M. Transportation will enable us to continue the success of the program and provide much needed financial assistance for talented students, and we are grateful for the company’s generous support."

In the 1999-2000 school year, the University provided 311 Chancellor’s Scholarships to incoming, academically gifted freshman. The merit-based scholarship offers full support for tuition and fees plus room and board. The scholarship program’s mission is to enable the University to compete with the best colleges and universities in America for Arkansas’s best high school students.
