FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The second part of a study that addresses long-term growth potential in Gentry will be presented by students at the University of Arkansas Community Design Center (UACDC) Thursday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Gentry.

As part of the yearlong study, the UACDC developed strategies to help Gentry manage new growth and development. Some of the recommendations include developing a coherent master street plan, enhancing the pedestrian environment, extending landscaping patterns throughout the city, improving parks and recreation, enhancing key civic elements and preserving the best qualities of the charming historic area.

School of Architecture students Nathan Alderson of Fayetteville, Cary Blackwelder-Plair of Lakeland, Florida and Aaron Wenger of Little Rock worked with Dr. Sevinç Yavuz, professor of architecture, to complete the study.

The UACDC was established by the School of Architecture in 1995 to assist Arkansas communities without the resources or staff to undertake comprehensive planning or community design studies. Under the direction of David Evan Glasser, FAIA, The UACDC emphasizes maintaining the quality and character of historic downtown areas, promoting local efforts to discourage sprawl and encouraging preservation of irreplaceable open space.
