FY05 Marks Outstanding Year for UA Fund Raising

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The 2005 fiscal year ending June 30 marked the end of the University of Arkansas Campaign for the Twenty-First Century and the second best annual fund-raising year ever raising $126.9 million in cash and gifts in kind. The Campaign for the Twenty-First Century raised $1.046 billion, surpassing its $1 billion goal by more than $46 million.

The annual total includes actual dollars or gifts-in-kind received during the fiscal period from July 1, 2004, through June 30, 2005, and excludes any pledges of gifts made during that time. Last year, FY04, the University of Arkansas raised $83.3 million.

The $126.9 million includes two major areas:

1. $116,259,387 raised for academic and academic support programs, including women’s athletics.
2. $10,716,035 from the Razorback Foundation Inc., a private organization that supports men’s athletics.

UA Chancellor John A. White said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who shares the desire to move the University of Arkansas into the upper ranks of the nation’s public universities. The outpouring of private gift support from our family of donors affirms and enhances our standing as a nationally competitive, student-centered research university serving Arkansas and the world.”

Of the $126.9 million raised for academic and athletic programs in 2004-2005, 10 percent came from individual alumni and friends, 72 percent came from corporations, corporate private and family foundations, and 18 percent came from planned gifts such as bequests.

“This is outstanding news and there are literally thousands of people to thank for this success,” said G. David Gearhart, vice chancellor for University Advancement. “Alumni, friends, corporations, foundations all contributed 47,849 gifts to help the University of Arkansas reach its goal. Our loyal volunteer base, our dedicated deans, directors and staff, and our chancellor’s inspirational vision and drive to make the University of Arkansas and state of Arkansas better for all its citizens have helped us reach our goals.”

Clay Edwards, associate vice chancellor for University Development, said, “This has been a phenomenal year and it’s important to recognize the role that momentum for the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century had in the total dollars we raised this year.”

“While the total number of gifts we received this year was nearly identical to that of last year, we actually realized a 52 percent increase in total dollars raised,” said Sandra K. Edwards, associate vice chancellor for University Development. “We’re so thankful to everyone for their generous support of the University of Arkansas.”
