Director of Economic Development Institute to Discuss Change and the Emerging Chaos

The Arkansas World Trade Center will host Otto J. Loewer, University of Arkansas professor and founding director of the university’s Economic Development Institute, in a program titled “Understanding Change and the Emerging Chaos: The Linkages among Technology, Economics and Societal Values” as part of the center’s Brown Bag luncheon series.

The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Arkansas World Trade Center.

Fluctuating energy costs and the uncertainty of the financial markets have raised many questions and concerns about the United States’ economic future. In that context, Loewer will discuss the ways technology, economics and societal values are linked in all societies; the ways these relationships form the basis from which societal change can be understood, addressed and to some extent predicted; why the country is now entering a period of emerging chaos with uncertainty about sustainable prosperity and well-being for the future; and how an easily understood conceptual model about the nature of change can facilitate communication among those with very different perspectives, experiences and skills.
