Department Of Chemistry And Biochemistry Honors Undergraduate Students

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The department of chemistry and biochemistry honored its outstanding undergraduate students during the Fulbright College Honors Ceremony April 12, 2002. A reception took place after the ceremony for the students and their families.

"This is the largest number of chemistry undergraduate awards the department has awarded in recent years," department Chairman Bill Durham said.

The Alpha Chi Sigma Chemistry Award, awarded by the professional chemistry fraternity to an outstanding freshman chemistry major, was presented to David Deitz by Chad Lamkin.

The Kathy Noland Award, awarded to freshman chemistry students who have demonstrated outstanding ability in laboratory work, was presented to Ashley Phillips and Clark Smith.

The Frederick A. Kekule’ Award, established in honor of the founder of the structural theory of organic chemistry and honors the outstanding sophomore bachelor of science chemistry major, was presented to Leremy Colf.

The Jacob Sacks Award, presented to outstanding junior premedical chemistry majors, was awarded to Jamie Walker and Mandy Johnson.

The Merck Index Award, honoring an outstanding senior chemistry major, was presented to Traci Means.

The Barbara Wertheim Campbell Award, established in memory of Barbara Wertheim Campbell and awarded to graduating bachelor of science chemistry or biochemistry majors who have completed all of their work at the University of Arkansas with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and who intend to pursue a professional career in chemistry, was presented to Erin Scherer and Daniel Lincoln.

The American Chemistry Society Achievement Awards honoring outstanding freshman chemistry majors was presented to Kristen Bextermueller, Jonathan Goodwin, Krystal Morgan, Elizabeth Kay Smith and Amanda Snow.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Achievement Awards, awarded to scholastically outstanding and professionally active bachelor of science and bachelor of arts chemistry majors, were presented to seniors Katie Baxter, Brian Bodemann, Jennifer Brooks, James Canoy, Kathlyn Cook, James Donelson, Brett Hicklin, Kevin King, Matt Lohse, Ellen Pennington, Angela Robey, Christopher Ross, Jonathan Stringer, Charles Surber, Christina Tarvin, Brandy Tharp, Matthew Whitley, and Allison Wolters; juniors Amanda Bell, Amanda Billingsley, Cassie Bruns, Lynn Endicott, Brandi Grigg, Andrea Hoggard, Vanessa Mark, Eli Matthews, and Candace Zieleniuk; and sophomores Laura Garner, Janna Halladay, Ashley Hopkins Christian Loeschel, Kerri Proctor, Tiffany Ricks, Jeffrey Justin Ruff, Scott Schilb, and Dragos Seghete.
