COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HEALTH PROFESSIONS HONORS OUTSTANDING STUDENTS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A few short weeks before UA final exams, the College of Education and Health Professions will pause to praise the accomplishments of its students and to encourage future achievement. The college’s annual Honors Convocation, to be held April 18 in the Arkansas Union Ballroom, recognizes undergraduate students who have received scholarships and other honors during the past year.

"We are proud of the accomplishments of our students," said Sharon B. Hunt, interim dean of the college, "and we are grateful to the many generous scholarship donors who are helping these young people achieve their dreams."

Award presenters include scholarship donors and representatives of organizations or businesses who have contributed scholarships to the college.

Two undergraduates who have been named senior scholars for 2001 will speak at the convocation. Rebecca Aguirre, an elementary education major, will deliver the welcome to faculty, donors, and students and their families and friends. Upon graduation, Aguirre and her husband plan to train to serve as missionaries in Venezuela.

At the conclusion of the convocation, Laura Susan Ross, senior scholar majoring in communication disorders, will offer closing remarks. Ross, who received several academic awards during her undergraduate career, will attend graduate school in the fall.

Hunt noted that there is no precise way to calculate the value of a scholarship to a student beyond the obvious financial assistance.

"Perhaps even more important is the implied encouragement," Hunt said. "Each scholarship is a pat on the back for work well done and a vote of confidence in the future of a student."
