'About Face' Returns to University of Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - "About Face II," a selection of original artwork from the private collection of Jackye and Curtis Finch Jr. of Little Rock, will be on exhibit at the University of Arkansas Fine Arts Center Gallery Oct. 20 through Nov. 12, 2004.

A program titled "Drawing on Experience: Collecting in Arkansas" will be presented by Dr. Ellen "Nan" Plummer, executive director of the Arkansas Arts Center, at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25 in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center. A reception will follow the lecture. All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"About Face II" features 25 works on paper by artists such as Robert Arneson, Nancy Grossman, Alfred Leslie, Whitfield Lovell and Lucas Samaras. Many of the works are self portraits and reveal the character of the artists as they see themselves. A variety of media is represented - ranging from pen and ink drawings to watercolors to a pastel on black velvet. While most of the works are by American artists, Mexican, British and Canadian artists are also represented in this exhibition. This is the second time a portion of the Finch collection has been on display at the University of Arkansas. This exceptional collection represents works they have acquired during the past 15 years.

The exhibition is sponsored by the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

"The Finch collection is an incredible resource and the presentation of 'About Face II' at the University of Arkansas Fine Arts Center Gallery provides another opportunity for us to enjoy their artwork and to celebrate their connoisseurship," Shannon Dillard Mitchell, director of the Fine Arts Gallery said.
