English Graduate Program Virtual Information Session From 5 to 6 p.m. Nov. 24
The Graduate Program in English at the U of A will be hosting a virtual open house event this evening, Monday, Nov. 24, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. (CST).
The event, featuring several English Department graduate faculty members, will provide information and answer questions about the English M.A. and Ph.D. programs, as well as their application processes.

The Graduate Program in English is committed to the thorough advising of graduate students from the time they start their programs to the time they graduate. It is also dedicated to helping graduate students:
- complete their degree in a timely manner and with as little debt as possible,
- remain healthy and happy throughout their courses of study and
- prepare themselves to be highly competitive candidates on the job market.
Incoming English M.A. and Ph.D. students are all offered financial assistance in the form of teaching assistanships and/or fellowships.
Students who enter the English M.A. program can choose between two tracks, generalist and specialist, to structure their course of graduate study. The second option allows students to specialize in:
- Cultural Studies;
- Environmental Literature, Writing and Culture;
- Ethnic and Regional Literatures;
- Gender and Sexuality;
- Medieval Literature;
- Religion and Literature; or
- Rhetoric, Composition and Literacy.
Students in the English Ph.D. program can specialize in a wide range of areas, and doctoral students are encouraged to customize their courses of study according to their individual interests and subjects of expertise.
