Resident Assistant Applications Now Open for 2026-27 Academic Year

Resident assistants are among the first to welcome new students to campus each August.
University Housing is now accepting applications from students interested in serving as resident assistants (RAs) for the 2026-27 academic year.
RAs are student leaders who live in residence halls and serve as the go-to resource for their peers. They build inclusive communities, promote belonging, support student well-being and respond to everyday and urgent needs, all while balancing their academic responsibilities.
To apply, you must be a current student with a 2.75 grade point average or higher.
Important Dates
- Application opens: 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10
- Application closes: 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3
- Interview period: Feb. 4-6
- Offer letters sent: Feb. 27
RAs are required to live on campus and serve through the full academic year, from July training through May Move-Out.
What You'll Receive
RA benefits include:
-
A scholarship covering your on-campus housing
-
A university meal plan
-
A semester stipend
This position is ideal for students who are organized, empathetic and ready to lead. It's also an opportunity to grow skills that go beyond the residence hall.
Become Career Ready
Serving as an RA helps students develop several of the U of A's Career-Ready Skills, preparing you for jobs, internships or graduate programs after graduation.
You'll strengthen your communication skills by advertising events, mediating roommate concerns and leading floor meetings. The job helps you build leadership experience by managing events, mentoring peers and navigating real-world problem-solving.
Working on a staff team and with campus partners will hone your teamwork and professionalism, while handling emergencies that sharpen your critical thinking.
You'll also learn to adapt in diverse settings and grow your perspective awareness, one of the key competencies employers look for in new hires.
Whether you're heading into teaching, business, healthcare or any other field, RA experience gives you a strong foundation and plenty of examples to share in interviews.
