Ride Into Fall With the Office for Sustainability

Todd Hansen, office manager for the Office for Sustainability, joins three others for coffee and breakfast at the August Cruise to Campus event.
The Office for Sustainability is excited to welcome students back to campus and to kick off a brand-new academic year! Whether you're riding in on a bike, e-scooter, skateboard or simply walking across campus, active transportation is one of the best ways to get to class while enjoying the outdoors. This year, the Office of Sustainability is kicking off the semester with exciting updates to biking and walking facilities, new programs and safety reminders to help everyone share the road.
Maple Street Updates and New Infrastructure
Over the summer, the U of A partnered with the City of Fayetteville to enhance Maple Street. These upgrades will connect the Razorback Greenway to Garland Avenue, making the street safer and more welcoming to all modes of transportation. Improvements include large sidewalks, enhanced crosswalks and a two-way protected bicycle path, which will be completed in the coming weeks.
Bicyclists residing in the Adohi Creative Community can utilize the Adohi Bike Lounge. The lounge offers secure indoor bike storage, racks, an air pump, basic tools and other resources. Residents can apply to use the Bike Lounge through the Adohi Creative Community HogSync page.

Upcoming Events and Initiatives
The Office for Sustainability has a full calendar of events and initiatives this semester. On Sept. 3, the fall Cruise to Campus event series kicks off on Old Main Lawn from 7-10 a.m., featuring free Onyx coffee, breakfast, live music and plenty of information on alternative transportation. This event is a great way to celebrate biking culture on campus and connect with fellow bicyclists. Then, on Sept. 8, OFS and campus partners will be at the Fulbright Peace Fountain for a Bike Safety Block Party, complete with informational tabling, free snacks and safety tips.
Another exciting addition is the U of A Bicycle Library. Launching Sept. 8, 2025, the program offers affordable, long-term bike rentals for U of A students, faculty and staff. A joint effort between the Office for Sustainability, UREC Outdoors and University Libraries, the Bicycle Library is designed to promote more sustainable commuting options. Safety Reminders
Finally, the Office for Sustainability reminds riders to always wear helmets, follow traffic rules and use lights after dark. Please avoid bicycling on crowded sidewalks. Our expanding network of bike lanes and improved infrastructure is designed to keep pedestrians, drivers and cyclists safe. With new routes, upgraded facilities and more resources than ever, this semester is the perfect time to embrace active transportation. Together, we can make campus safer, greener and better connected.
