U of A Inspirational Chorale Auditions

The U of A Inspirational Chorale, one of the university's most vibrant and enduring musical ensembles, is holding fall 2025 auditions on Aug. 18-19 in the Music Building, room 225. Sign-up sheets for audition times are now available outside of room 225.

Led by Jeffrey Allen Murdock, director of choral activities and founder of the Arkansas Center for Black Music, the Inspirational Chorale has been a beacon of diversity and musical excellence on campus since 1977. As the longest-running diversity initiative at the U of A, the Inspirational Chorale is dedicated to preserving the Black Sacred Music Tradition, performing primarily as a gospel choir and showcasing the work of non-idiomatic Black composers.

There are two ways to join:

  • Section 1 - Audition required (Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 18-19)

  • Section 2 - No audition required; open enrollment

Known for its powerful performances and deep cultural impact, the ensemble — affectionately known as "Inspire" — has shared its talents across Northwest Arkansas and internationally, including performances in Jamaica, Italy, Detroit, Indianapolis and, most recently, their Carnegie Hall debut in March 2024. They've also collaborated with artists such as Kurt Carr, Lamar Campbell and Ledisi, and regularly perform at high-profile university events, including for Chancellor Charles Robinson and U of A athletic programs.

Don't miss your chance to be part of this rich musical tradition. Click for more information about the Inspirational Chorale and how to join.
