Happy Dr. Frank Scheide Day!
On April 25, 2025, professor Scheide was celebrated for his 47 years of service to the U of A Department of Communication, as he retires at the end of this semester.
At the retirement celebration, Mayor Molly Rawn, alumna of the Department of Communication, presented a proclamation claiming May 2, 2025, as "Dr. Frank Scheide Day" in the city of Fayetteville. The proclamation cited his impressive career in the field of film studies, an amazing 52 years of teaching and conducting research in the university setting and providing leadership and instruction to the community through public service. The proclamation states, "Dr. Scheide is a respected colleague and a beloved teacher held in highest regard by his peers and students."
Matthew Spialek, chair of the Department of Communication, said, "Frank is a gifted scholar-teacher, and this proclamation is well-deserved. Our department admires how Frank has shared his research and passion for film with the broader community, including his work founding and organizing the U of A Silent Native American Film Series and the U of A and city of Fayetteville Indigenous People's Day Observance. For these efforts and more, he has helped countless individuals appreciate the transformative impact of film."
Mayor Rawn also encouraged all former students, colleagues, friends and family to congratulate Scheide on his productive and impactful career in higher education.
Congratulations on your retirement, Dr. Scheide!
