The U of A community is invited to celebrate Alan Ellstrand's distinguished 25-year career on Friday, April 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Willard J. Walker Hall 203 (Hembree Room) for an afternoon of celebratory toasts, collegiate camaraderie and heartfelt farewells.

"My 25 years at the Walton College has been the greatest experience of my professional career," Ellstrand said. "Being part of an organization that was on the ascent every day over that 25-year period was amazing and inspiring. Working with talented professionals (and just plain great people) who make up the Walton College made every day special. I look forward to seeing the Walton College achieve even greater heights in the future."

Scholar, Leader, Mentor

In 2000, Ellstrand joined the Sam M. Walton College of Business, where he has made significant contributions as a professor in management and strategy, entrepreneurship and venture innovation. Since 2016, he has served as an associate dean in the Walton College, most recently assuming the role of associate dean for curriculum innovation and teaching effectiveness in fall 2024.

As an accomplished academic with a Ph.D. from Indiana University, an M.B.A. in strategic management from Northern Illinois University and a B.A. in political science from the University of Illinois, he brought exceptional expertise to his leadership positions.

During his tenure, Ellstrand has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the U of A Alumni Association Award for Teaching and Service, the Walton College Award for Outstanding Service and the Walton College Outstanding All Around Faculty Award. His research on corporate governance, top management teams and executive leadership has been published in leading journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal and Organization Science.

Prior to his associate dean appointments, Ellstrand served as department chair for management and director of M.B.A. programs for the Walton College, further demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence and leadership.

Faculty and staff from across campus are encouraged to attend this special celebration to honor Ellstrand as he prepares for a well-deserved retirement on June 30, 2025. He will be recommended for the distinguished title of Professor Emeritus of Business Management at that time.
