Dan Clairmont, Kristen Knight and Brent Schlotfeldt have all been promoted to new leadership positions within the university's Facilities Management department.

Clairmont and Knight are being promoted to senior director roles, and Schlotfeldt is being promoted to a director role as part of FAMA's continued efforts to provide the best possible campus experience for the U of A community.

Clairmont will be the senior director of facility operations and utilities, encompassing university maintenance, operations and utilities. Facilities Managment's shops, zones, heat/chiller plant, grounds and building services will report to him.

Clairmont has been working in construction management, contracting, facilities management and planning for over 30 years for both the federal government and higher education. He has led both small and large teams in the construction, procurement and maintenance of infrastructure and facilities.

First getting his start with the U.S. Air Force after earning his master's degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Clairmont worked in various engineering roles in the military from 1989 to 2012. He then got his start in higher education as an associate director of operations and support at the University of Texas, Austin in 2012.

Clairmont joined the U of A in 2016 and has acted as the director of engineering and construction for over eight years.

Knight will be the senior director of construction, planning and design and will oversee FAMA's project managers, as well as campus planning and design.

Knight has worked at the U of A since 2011, starting as a project manager within campus planning. Since 2015, she has been the associate director of contracted services, engineering and construction, leading FAMA's relationships with outside contractors, engineers, consultants and architects with excellence.

Prior to working in U of A's Facilities Management, she worked as an architect from 2000-2011. She is also an alum of the U of A, graduating in 2000 with a degree in architecture.

"We are excited to formally announce these changes within the Facilities Management department that are going to help us continue to build our team and provide the best possible support and campus experience for our U of A community," said Clayton Hamilton, senior associate vice chancellor for campus services. "Dan and Kristen have provided important leadership and service to our department over the last decade and will continue to offer essential contributions to the university in their new roles. Their efforts are already underway toward filling additional leadership roles and positions to support FAMA."

Schlotfeldt, who has served as the director for residential facilities in the housing department for the past three years, is being promoted to a role in Facilities Management as the new facility operations director, filling a much-needed vacancy and offering immediate skill and insight to the department.

As director, Schlotfeldt will focus on improving operational efficiency and effectiveness to the facility operations areas of FAMA.

The staff and areas he will oversee are Kelley Sharp and the shops, Jon Andrews with BSMC, Kevin Shackelford and the zones, and Elvis Hunt with building services.

Schlotfeldt brings with him a strong background in facilities management and maintenance that will be a great asset for the department's needs.

"I am very excited to introduce Brent as the newest member of our FAMA team," said Charles Zimmerman, senior adviser and interim executive director of facilities. "Not only is he already familiar with our beautiful and demanding campus, but he also offers valuable experience in facilities management that will immediately make an impact on our team and the university as a whole."

Before working at the university, Schlotfeldt lived and worked in Iowa. He managed the Facilities Management team for the City of Cedar Rapids from 2015 to 2020 and then moved to Northwest Arkansas to work for the Walton family.

After almost two years as the property manager for Walton Enterprises, he was hired at the U of A.

Schlotfeldt said he is thankful for his time with University Housing and is excited for his transition to FAMA.
