Report Safety Incidents and Observations on Campus Through SciShield
There is a new way for campus members to report non-emergency safety incidents and observations.
The university uses SciShield to manage campus safety compliance information, and all campus members can log into SciShield to report a safety incident or observation.
After logging in to SciShield with UARK credentials, users can navigate to the bottom right of the SciShield home page to the "Actions" card and select "Incident or Near Miss" to report a hazardous situation or injury that occurred or almost occurred.
Another option is to select "ObservNow" to submit a general safety observation, either a negative concern or positive feedback.
Both "Incident or Near Miss" and "ObservNow" reports can be made anonymously and serve to inform campus of any issues that should be addressed to prevent future potential injury or otherwise deserve additional attention.
The following are definitions of the language used by these forms:
- Incident: Any unintended event that has led to accidental damage, injury, illness or death.
- Near Miss: An unintentional event that could have resulted in damage, injury, illness or death but was narrowly avoided.
- Hazard Observation/Concern: Circumstances that warrant the university's attention because of a potentially hazardous situation, including unsafe acts, conditions or lack of resources.
- Positive Observation: Circumstances that deserve recognition of a safety job well done, including recognition of safety improvements and safe actions.
For emergencies, contact 911. For assistance with crime, violence or motor vehicle accidents, contact University Police at 479-575-2222.
Facility issues that need maintenance, repair or building services (custodial) in a timely manner to resolve a safety concern should be initiated through the Facilities Management Service Center, such as a broken window or a pipe leak.
Visitors and campus guests without an UARK account can report incidents and safety observations directly to the Environmental Health and Safety Office at enhs@uark.edu. Thank you for helping keep our campus community safe.
