TRIO Talent Search Prepares Students from 12 Area High Schools for ACT Exam Success
Talent Search, a federally funded TRIO program through the U.S. Department of Education, hosted an ACT Success Bootcamp for high school juniors and seniors on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences on the U of A campus.
Students received personalized instruction from Jim Giovanni, one of the nation's leading ACT authors. Attendees were guided in navigating the test structure, learned common types of questions, reviewed helpful formulas and rules, participated in drills and reviewed practical strategies for maximizing their scores on upcoming ACT exams in the spring.
TRIO Talent Search is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program provides a full spectrum of services to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The U of A has three Talent Search grants, which serve 38 target schools throughout Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Sebastian and Washington counties in Arkansas and McDonald County in Missouri.
Talent Search is committed to assisting students in overcoming barriers to higher education. Providing services that allow students to successfully perform on the ACT ensures their ability to enter college and be competitive for scholarship opportunities. For the past reporting period, the U of A TRIO Talent Search programs have averaged a college going rate of 78 percent and a six-year post-secondary graduation rate of 64 percent.
Talent Search is within the Division of Student Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs supports the whole student by cultivating transformative experiences and environments that promote student well-being, sense of community and success.
