Lunch Workshop: Supporting Your Research From Initial Idea to Publication
The University of Arkansas Humanities Center invites all scholars at any point in their publication process to join a luncheon workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in Old Main 523 on how to navigate the university press system.
Melody Herr, head of the Office of Scholarly Communication in the University of Arkansas Libraries, will share insider information with attendees based on her extensive experience in scholarly publication. The workshop will address the crucial first steps in getting a book into print, including what makes a compelling book proposal, which publisher is right for your work and how to approach acquisitions editors.
Herr is the author of Writing and Publishing Your Book: A Guide for Experts in Every Field and served as acquisitions editor at Northern Illinois University Press from 2003-2007 and senior acquiring editor for politics and government at the University of Michigan Press from 2007-2016. In her position at the University Libraries, Herr assists scholars and researchers from all disciplines in publishing and promoting their work as well as understanding their rights in contract provisions and copyright litigation.
