David Anderson, center, accepts the Global Campus Employee of the Quarter award from Cheryl Murphy, vice provost for distance education and head of the Global Campus (left), and Jamie Loftin, assistant vice provost for distance education administration (right).
David Anderson has been named employee of the second quarter by the U of A Global Campus.
Anderson, a learning technology specialist on the Learning Technology Team at Global Campus, was nominated for diligence and hard work on behalf of faculty and students at the university.
"I'm both humbled and a little embarrassed to be in the spotlight, but I truly appreciate the recognition," Anderson said. "It means a lot to know that my work is having a positive impact. Thank you to everyone for your kindness and support. I'll continue striving to meet and exceed expectations."
Anderson primarily works with Global Campus' online Instructors. He helps instructional designers and instructors design and build online courses exactly as they envision them during normal development cycles. He also provides consultation and training on the tools and resources available to enhance the online learning experience, ensuring instructors have everything they need to offer engaging and effective courses. His support extends beyond online courses to all instructors through TIPS (Teaching Innovation and Pedagogical Support) workshops and consultations.
The co-workers who nominated Anderson praised his willingness to assist other staff in any way possible. This includes sharing a software script he developed for a project with other learning technology specialists in his unit that would make their work much easier.
"David is always willing to take on projects that may be mundane or difficult to get done," Anderson's co-workers said. "He works on them diligently and completes them on time or, more often than not, early. He has a great attitude, is a quick learner, and is first to offer assistance when someone is in need. David is an integral part of the LTS team, and we're lucky to have him at Global Campus."
Miran Kang, director of Instructional Design and Support Services for Global Campus, serves as Anderson's immediate supervisor.
"'I couldn't have done it without David' is the phrase I hear all the time," Kang said. "I believe it sums up his contribution to the team and the U of A quite nicely."
Cheryl Murphy, vice provost for distance education and head of the Global Campus, recognized Anderson as the employee of the quarter at a January staff meeting.
"This quarter, the Global Campus celebrates David Anderson, his work ethic and his ability to empower faculty to design and deliver high-quality online courses," Murphy said. "David was singled out by his peers for his outstanding skills and teamwork."
Anderson has been with Global Campus for three years, since February 2022. He joined the U of A in October 2012, working as hourly staff in the university's computer labs, then moving to Desktop Support. Starting in 2018, Anderson transitioned to full-time work at the university's IT Helpdesk before eventually joining Global Campus.
The Global Campus awards the employee of the quarter to recognize outstanding achievements and accomplishments that relate to the unit's goals and the U of A mission. The award recipient receives a commemorative certificate and a monetary award. The four quarterly awardees may then be eligible to become the Global Campus Employee of the Year.
The Global Campus supports the U of A academic colleges and schools in the development and delivery of online degree programs and courses, and workforce development programs. This unit provides instructional design services, learning technology support, media production services and assistance with financial administration, recruitment and marketing.
The Global Campus also supports the W.E. Manning Memorial Scholarship, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students studying in online degree programs.
