The College of Education and Health Professions' School Wellness Lab will host a Mental Health First Aid training on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

The training will be held via Zoom from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with room for breaks and an hour-long lunch.

Members of the campus and surrounding communities are invited to register and attend this training session. While this training is valued at $170, the School Wellness Lab is offering it for $45 per person.

According to the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Mental Health First Aid is an early intervention public education program designed to extend the concept of first aid training to mental health and substance use challenges, empowering community members with the ability to give better initial support to someone who is experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis.

Training prepares participants to recognize the signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health or substance use challenge, how to listen nonjudgmentally and give reassurance to a person who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, and how to refer a person to appropriate support and services.

Those with questions about this or future training sessions may contact Kara Lasater at klasater@uark.edu or Erin Popejoy at erinkern@uark.edu.
