American Academy in Rome Seeking Applications for Affiliated Fellowship
As part of their commitment to support innovative artists and scholars living and working together in a dynamic international community, the American Academy in Rome is currently accepting applications for spring fellowships awarded to a select group of artists and scholars. The winners are invited to Rome to pursue their work in an atmosphere conducive to intellectual artistic freedom and interdisciplinary exchange.
The American Academy affiliated fellowship in Rome represents something unique — an opportunity for artists and scholars to spend significant time working in a city with long cultural and artistic legacies. The intention is that this time stimulates creative thinking and that the participants are transformed by the dynamism of the academy's constantly evolving community of both invited residents and visiting artists and scholars.
Affiliated artists and scholars are in residence at the academy for a period of four or eight weeks. During that time, the artist or scholar receives housing and access to the academy's scholarly resources, including the library, the photographic archive, the Norton Van Buren seminar room and the archaeology study collection. In addition, the artist or scholar is invited to attend public programming such as concerts, conferences, exhibitions, lectures, readings and symposia. The following fields are supported by the academy: ancient studies, architecture, design, historic preservation and conservation, landscape architecture, literature, creative writing, medieval studies, Italian studies, musical composition, Renaissance and early modern studies, and visual arts.
