Safety Inspection of Natural Gas Pipeline to be Conducted Tuesday

Safety Inspection of Natural Gas Pipeline to be Conducted Tuesday

Workers at the university's central utility plant will be conducting a safety inspection of the natural gas pipeline on campus Tuesday morning.

The process involves directing a device called a pig from one end of the pipeline to the other to collect data on the condition of the pipeline.

The inspection is not expected to impact any campus operations, but there will be a noticeable gas smell at the beginning of the pipeline on Nettleship Street and at the end of the pipeline near Williams Street and the Harmon Avenue Parking Garage. This is expected and does not indicate any danger with the pipeline.

Emergency officials are aware of the inspection and will be available to provide any assistance if necessary. The Facilities Management website has more information on natural gas pipeline safety.
