UARK Theatre Presents 'Heroes of the Fourth Turning' at Global Campus
Observe, contemplate, discuss. Heroes of the Fourth Turning by Will Arbery depicts four people, all with a deep connection to a conservative Catholic college in Wyoming. Some returning for the first time in seven years, and others who never left, all come together to celebrate their beloved mentor Dr. Gina Presson on her inauguration as president of the college.
Justin is an ex-Marine and convert to Catholicism. He believes this school was the antidote to the poison of the secular world. Has the school brought him the peace he claims it has?
Emily, the youngest daughter of Presson's eight children, moved home seven years ago when she was diagnosed with a debilitating disease. Will she find a way to relieve her pain?
Theresa, Presson's protege, returns to seek the approval of her mentor after establishing herself within the conservative media as a popular blogger. Has she lived up to the potential that Presson saw in her? Has she redeemed herself from the sins that haunt her?
Kevin is an alumnus and one of Theresa's best friends from school. He feels lost and is struggling with lack of community after graduation. Will getting a girlfriend really save him? Or should he just become a priest?
Together they navigate how the world has changed each other in the time apart. We see their joys, their heartbreaks, their confusion. It is a production like no other, encapsulating the many different facets of life and identity. We observe their behavior, study their past, their triumphs, their failures, and try to learn from their mistakes. Can they break through conflicting ideals, their rampant anger at the world and their understanding of faith to find a path forward? Does Presson have the answers? Will they find what they so desperately need?
There is only one way to find out, as Heroes of the Fourth Turning is currently showing at the Global Campus theater just off the Fayetteville Square.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, Nov. 20-23, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24. In a world where everyone has the urge to be heard, will these four finally learn how to listen?
