Reading Today With German Turkish Author Hatice Açikgöz, Writer-in-Residence at University of Iowa
Hatice Açıkgöz, a fiction writer, poet and editor, will read from their new novel, Nur so ein Gefühl (Only a Feeling), in German and in English at 5 p.m. this afternoon in Kimpel Hall 416. Their upcoming novel deals with the ongoing migration crisis and rise of the far right in Germany. They are currently Writer-in-Residence International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.
Açıkgöz is also the author of two books: the short story collection Ein oktopus hat drei herzen (An Octopus Has Three Hearts) and the poetry collection Fancy immigrantin: ein poetisches tagebuch (Fancy Immigrants).
They are the recipient of the Raus! Nur Raus! stipend of the city of Hamburg and are currently working on their debut novel, which explores the rise of fascism in modern Germany. Açıkgöz also produces the podcast literarisch, solidarisch with Dara Brexendorf and Zara Zerbe, in which they explore solidarity amongst writers and design utopian futures.
