U of A Employees and GAs Asked to Complete Survey on AI Use
Roy G. Cordell

The U of A encourages faculty, staff and graduate assistants to provide feedback on how they use artificial intelligence by completing this survey by Friday, Oct. 25.

The survey was created by the University AI Task Force, which was convened by Provost Terry Martin earlier this year. The survey asks questions related to AI based on the participant's roles and activities on campus. The survey aims to gather information about how employees and graduate assistants are currently using generative AI, how they plan to use it in the near future, their needs related to using generative AI and their concerns (if any) about the use of generative AI. Information gathered from this survey will help the AI Task Force make recommendations for the university's AI strategy going forward.

The survey is anonymous, but participants will be asked to indicate whether they are a faculty member, a staff member or a graduate assistant and whether their work involves research, teaching and/or staff operations/administration. As a small thank-you for completing the survey, the task force has provided a link at the end of the survey to a free guide for AI prompt writing in education.

The survey is part of the AI Taskforce's effort to address the following charge:

Adopt guiding principles and procedures that will help the University of Arkansas utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance teaching, research, and campus operations while preventing misuse and unintended consequences of AI.   The taskforce should consider best practices developed by other peer institutions, identify training opportunities needed for faculty, staff, and students to enhance their familiarity and engagement with AI, and examine any needed changes to university policy and procedures based on the emergence of AI. Further, the taskforce should work with University Relations to develop a centralized digital marketplace where faculty, staff, students, and the public can quickly and easily access information about the University's AI strategy, best practice guides, as well as highlighting research on AI.
