Is Your Password Secure?
One of the most effective and simple ways to keep personal information safe is to create secure, protected passwords for all accounts. A weak password can be easily guessed by attackers, exposing your personal data. With cyber threats evolving constantly, it's critical to ensure your passwords are strong, unique and securely managed.
-
Use a Password Manager: Password managers can generate and store strong, unique passwords for all accounts, eliminating the need to remember each one. Never write your passwords down where they can be accessed by others.
-
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification, such as a text message code or an authentication app. The university's recommended form of MFA is the Microsoft Authenticator app.
-
Don't Share Passwords: Never share passwords with anyone, including colleagues, friends or family members.
-
Use Passphrases: Passphrases are multiple words containing a mixture of case sensitive letters, numbers and special characters. For example, "1 Sm@llStep4 M@n?"
If you believe a password or account has been compromised, you should log out of your account on all devices and change your password immediately. To reset your UARK account password, go to passwordreset.microsoftonline.com and submit a ticket to the IT Help Portal, if your account has been compromised.
National Cybersecurity Awareness Month: This month, we're highlighting the importance of staying safe online. Whether you're a tech expert or just browsing the web, everyone can take simple yet powerful steps to protect themselves and strengthen our campus community's digital security. For more tips and resources, check out the IT Services Cybersecurity Checklist or visit the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
