The Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I³R) at the U of Ar is hosting its annual Fall Research Showcase this Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Arkansas Union Connections Lounge (ARKU). The U of A campus community and public are invited to explore students' leading-edge research projects in biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence and community development.

"The institute offers doctoral, graduate and undergraduate research experiences. Students get hands-on learning experience in labs and on grant-funded projects," explained Dr. Ranu Jung, I³R founding executive director and associate vice chancellor. "Opportunities at the institute are not limited to one major or college. At the showcase, you'll meet students from many different programs and colleges."

Student researchers at I³R study within Walton College of Business, College of Engineering, the Graduate School and International Education's Public Policy program, among others.

"The fall showcase is an opportunity for us to share the variety of research happening at the institute, as well as inspire new connections on campus," explained doctoral fellow Aliyah Shell, who will be showcasing her work with Extended Touch, recently featured on Discover RED.

Attendees will engage directly with I³R student researchers and explore how their projects address real-world challenges in health, regional food systems and community development. The event will include poster presentations along with a live demonstration of Cultivate IQ, an AI data insights software platform funded by the National Science Foundation's Convergence Accelerator Grant, designed to connect small and medium-sized farms to distributors.

"This is a behind-the-scenes look of what our students are doing. It also creates opportunities to forge new partnerships," Jung remarked. "An important part of our mission is education and empowerment, and events like this demonstrate the value of providing students with hands-on opportunities to conduct research that has profound societal impacts."
