In honor of National Depression Screening Day happening this week, Counseling and Psychological Services is hosting a depression screening event from 9 a.m. to noon today, Oct. 7, in front of Club Red outside of the Arkansas Union. Students who participate will complete a brief, confidential screening and receive a free donut.

Why Attend?

This event offers an opportunity to assess your mental health through a simple, confidential screening process. The survey can help identify early signs of depression, which often go unnoticed in college environments. CAPS mental health clinicians will be available to discuss the results and guide you to appropriate resources, if further help is needed.

What is National Depression Screening Day?

National Depression Screening Day is on October 10, 2024. It takes place during Mental Illness Awareness Week, which is the first full week of October, today through Friday. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) leads the campaign that aims to raise awareness of mental illness.

Highlights of the CAPS Event

  • Confidential Screening: A quick and anonymous survey to assess mental health.
  • Free Donuts: Incentive for participants to prioritize their well-being.
  • Mental Health Awareness: Engage in self-reflection while learning about the mental health services offered by CAPS.
  • Year-Round Support: CAPS provides continuous services, including short-term individual counseling, workshops, and crisis support for students who may need additional help beyond the event.

Register for the Event

Students can pre-register on HogSync or simply stop by the CAPS table outside Club Red between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. to take part in the screening and grab a donut.

National Depression Screening Day is one of many efforts by CAPS to foster a supportive environment for mental health and well-being on campus.
