Call for Proposals: Daniel E. Ferritor Award for Departmental Teaching Excellence

The Curriculum and Instruction Department received the 2024 Ferritor Award.

The Office of the Provost and the U of A Teaching Academy are pleased to issue the call for proposals for the 2024 Daniel E. Ferritor Award for Departmental Excellence in Teaching. The award is named in honor of Daniel E. Ferritor, who served as chancellor of the U of A from 1986 to 1997 and as interim chancellor in 2015. He also founded the Teaching Academy in 1988.

The annual award honors the academic unit that best exemplifies a sustained, department-wide commitment to teaching excellence for all students. The winning department will receive $10,000 and a trophy, and the unit name will be placed on a traveling university plaque housed in that department for one year.

Complete application instructions, evaluation criteria and frequently asked questions are posted on the Office for Faculty Affairs website. Departmental applications are due in two parts, each addressing two selection criteria posted on the website. The submission addressing the first two criteria is due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The deadline for the second submission is Jan. 30. The formal presentation of the award will be made In April during the Faculty Appreciation Week. 

Past winners of the Ferritor Departmental Award include the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (2024); the School of Human Environmental Science (2023); the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation (2022); the Department of Sociology and Criminology (2021); the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing (2020); the School of Social Work (2019); the Department of Industrial Engineering (2018); and the Department of History (2017).
