UA Power Group Faculty Named Top Scholar by ScholarGPS

Xiangbo Meng

Xiangbo Meng, associate professor in mechanical engineering and UA Power Group faculty, has been honored as a Top Scholar by ScholarGPS, a leading scholarly analytics platform. ScholarGPS uses advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and data mining to evaluate over 30 million scholars from 55,000 institutions globally.

Meng's exceptional publication record, the impact of his research and his contributions to the field have earned him a place in the top 0.5 percent of scholars worldwide. With over 100 peer-reviewed journal papers, seven book chapters and 18 U.S. patents/IP disclosures, Meng's work has been featured in prestigious journals, including Accounts of Chemical Research, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Nano, Nano Energy, Energy Storage Materials and others.

In addition to Meng's current role in the College of Engineering, a position he has held since 2016, he also leads the Meng Nano & Energy Lab and is currently serving on the editorial boards of Nanotechnology, Molecules, Journal of Composites Science and Frontiers in Energy Research.

Meng has received numerous recognitions for scholarly achievements and his research and innovation efforts. Meng's interests lie in three areas:

1. Energy storage devices (such as lithium-ion batteries, lithium metal batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries and sodium-based batteries);
2. Materials synthesis and processing via atomic and molecular layer deposition (ALD and MLD) for a wide range of applications such as energy, catalysis, semiconductors, surface engineering and biomedical; and
3. Nanoscience and nanotechnology for nanostructured materials and composites having exceptional properties.

Meng's research has been being supported by funds from the U.S. Department of Energy, National Science Foundation and several industry sponsors (such as Ford Motor Company).

The UA Power Group is a multidisciplinary group of researchers working to deliver next-generation electronic vehicles, renewable energy systems, grid infrastructure and cybersecurity.
