Market-Based Pay Information From Compensation Projects to Be Shared With Employees
Unit leaders across campus will soon begin having conversations with employees and graduate assistants about the implementation of the university's Staff Classification and Compensation Project, Faculty Compensation Project and Graduate Assistant Benchmarking Project.
Through the end of September, many faculty and staff will learn about market-based increases expected to be added to their compensation, while staff members will also find out how the work they perform aligns to the market and the specific level of their job in the university's new job classification architecture. Graduate assistants are expected to receive increases to the minimum GA base pay rate.
Compensation Projects Information and Resources
A new Compensation Projects website provides an opportunity to learn more about the purpose, implementation and benefits of this significant investment in the university community.
In addition to the website, the university has created a job classification architecture overview video and full training video to better inform staff of the details and methodology behind the staff project.
Planning for the Future
As part of the faculty and staff projects, unit leaders and subject matter experts worked cross-functionally with various departments to benchmark the work performed on campus in comparison to similar work in the market. Both projects collected data from higher education institutions, while the staff project also collected industry data.
"These projects are a part of our ongoing commitment to providing more competitive pay for our people — both in the short-term and beyond the implementation phase," said Michelle Hargis Wolfe, associate vice chancellor for human resources and chief people officer. "This will help us attract, reward and retain talent. The investment also allows the university to have continued access to compensation survey data, which enables us to periodically assess the competitiveness of our job and compensation architecture."

Virtual office hours sessions dedicated to answering questions about the staff project and its components will be offered in September with representation from Human Resources, User Solutions, Payroll and the Provost's Office. Please note that the purpose of the sessions will be to answer questions about the project's details and implementation — not questions related to individual staff mapping or compensation data. Employees are encouraged to visit the website and view one of the training videos prior to attending.
