In collaboration with the Department of Philosophy, the Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies Program will host the Kafka Reading Group this academic year.

The study of Franz Kafka's oeuvre requires interdisciplinary engagement with German and Jewish Studies, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature and Post-Structuralism. The Kafka Reading Group at the U of A will serve as an entry point to Kafka's work and as a foundation for more specialised studies.

Reading List

  • The Trial (fall 2024)
  • The Castle (spring 2025)
  • Kafka: Toward a Minor Literature by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari (2024-25)

Meetings

  • Second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.
  • Discussion of one or two chapters of Toward a Minor Literature.
  • Discussion/presentation of a concept in the current novel (e.g. desire, power, justice, atonement, sacrifice, continuity/contiguity, schizoanalysis, etc).
  • A fun time with snacks!

If interested in joining the group, please contact Isaac Raymond at iraymond@uark.edu with questions!
