As students return to campus this fall, the Student Success Center at the Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence, or the CORD, will continue offering a network of resources and programming to help them thrive.

The center's teams spent the summer scaling up programming to meet the needs of new and continuing students. Student success programming focuses on maximizing academic success, enhancing belonging and improving the care students experience as they complete their degrees.

Additionally, staff collaborate with campus faculty to coordinate workshops tailored to student needs. For personalized guidance, students can consult the student advocate on call to identify helpful campus resources. Student Success Center building and service hours can be found at success.uark.edu.

Featured services this fall include:

Career Studio
The Career Studio provides one-on-one and group advising/coaching for some of the Offices of Career Connections' most popular services, including resume and cover letter reviews, interview tips and mock interviews. The Career Studio is open for walk-in appointments 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

CORD Welcome Desk
The CORD Help Desk is a go-to spot for navigating academic life at the U of A. The Welcome Desk can help with using UAConnect and answering general questions about campus resources. The Welcome Desk also helps with directions, information about offices across campus, tips for success in classes and exploring major and minor options at the U of A.

Peer Academic Coaching
Coaching helps students evaluate their current academic strategies and skills to identify strengths and gaps, so they can adjust and develop new strategies and habits for success. During coaching sessions, students learn how to manage university life efficiently and effectively. Students are encouraged to connect with a peer academic coach at the CORD for individual meetings and personalized support.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental instruction (SI) provides students an opportunity to gather with a small group and an SI leader, so they can connect with classmates, ask and answer questions, practice with course content and hear advice from the SI leader who has excelled in the course previously. Students enrolled in classes offering SI will register for SI sessions in the first week of classes.

Success Path Newsletter
Students can sign up for digital academic success tips that are delivered right to their inboxes. Previous tips included staying motivated, how to pay attention, making healthy choices and self-care.

Tutoring
Tutoring provides individual, student-centered instruction. Students can schedule appointments to meet with tutors in person or online, work with a tutor during drop-in hours or attend one of the 21 weekly study halls for the most popular subjects tutored.

Writing Studio
Undergraduate and graduate students can schedule appointments for writing consultations focused on improving academic writing both in person and online via Zoom. By-request writing workshops and online resources for students and faculty are available on the Writing Studio webpage.

"The teams in the Student Success Center (at the CORD) partner with students to empower them to make the most of the opportunities they have during college," said Trevor Francis, associate vice provost for student success. "Our services are designed to help students reach their academic goals, increase their sense of belonging and experience expressions of care through our creative and effective programs that focus on learning engagement."
