Justin Mazzanti has been named employee of the year by the U of A Global Campus.

Mazzanti won the award for his exceptional service and support to U of A faculty who teach online and on campus. This is Mazzanti's first time receiving this award. Mazzanti was previously named employee of the quarter for Global Campus and for the U of A as a whole, both in the second quarter of 2023-2024.

"It's an honor to know that my contributions to this extremely talented and dedicated team at Global Campus are helping our mission of creating opportunities for faculty, staff and students from all over the world," Mazzanti said. "I am truly grateful for every day that I work at this university, my alma mater."

Mazzanti was recognized for his outstanding service by Cheryl Murphy, vice provost for distance education and head of the Global Campus. Murphy named Mazzanti the Global Campus Employee of the Year for 2023-24 at a staff meeting on July 11.

"Global Campus chose Justin for this award to shine a spotlight on the amazing work that he does behind the scenes to keep Global Campus running at full speed," Murphy said. "He puts his heart into maintaining productive workspaces and solving problems for our staff and those we serve."

Mazzanti, a building specialist on the technology services team at Global Campus, oversees all repairs, upgrades and routine maintenance to the facility, which includes immediately attending to issues that arise outside of regular office hours. He facilitates communications between Global Campus, FAMA and other contractors regarding building issues so that times of heavy construction have the least impact on the building's occupants. He oversees the inventory process and implements building safety processes such as new employee onboarding with the ID Card Reader system. Mazzanti recently oversaw door upgrades that provide staff and visitors with improved, ADA-compliant access to facilities.

Glen Dunn, manager of technology services for Global Campus, serves as Mazzanti's immediate supervisor.

"Having someone like Justin taking care of our facility, coordinating with FAMA and contractors is key for all GC staff to have a great place to work," Dunn praised Mazzanti's exceptional work performance. "I am honored to have him on my team."

Mazzanti graduated from the U of A in 2006 with a B.A. in English. He started working at the U of A in Campus Mail/PMC Solutions in 2015, then moved to Property Accounting in 2019. He joined Global Campus in May 2022.

The Global Campus employee of the year is chosen from among the four employee of the quarter recipients who remain employed with Global Campus through the end of the award year. The award recognizes outstanding achievement and accomplishments that relate to the unit's goals and the U of A mission. The award recipient receives a commemorative certificate and a monetary award.

Two other candidates qualified for Global Campus employee of the year 2023-2024. They were:

  • Rabia Shattuck, customer relationship management coordinator, Recruitment and Outreach
  • Alex Kennetz, financial affairs analyst, Financial Affairs and Human Resources

The Global Campus supports U of A academic colleges and schools in the development and delivery of online degree programs and courses and workforce development programs. This unit provides instructional design services, learning technology support, media production services and assistance with financial administration, recruitment and marketing.

The Global Campus also supports the W.E. Manning Memorial Scholarship, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students studying in online degree programs.
