Fall 2024 Strategic Philanthropy Course Still Open for Enrollment
College is full of opportunities to learn about making money, but there are few classes that teach how to share wealth effectively and strategically. Join us this fall for a transformational experience as we steward and grant money through funding provided by the Philanthropy Lab to Arkansas charities that are making a difference.
Professors Daniel Levine and Rogelio García Contreras will co-teach "Strategic Philanthropy" at the University of Arkansas this fall (HUMN 4250V-002 and HUMN 425HV-001, 3 credit hours). Students will research the history of philanthropy and non-profit organizations and investigate several non-profits in our area with the goal of providing one or more with grants of up to $25,000. There are still several seats available in this course.
Strategic Philanthropy is a partnership between the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, the Sam M. Walton College of Business, and The Philanthropy Lab and is a designated U of A "Service Learning" course. Last March, the University of Arkansas Service Learning Initiative recognized Strategic Philanthropy as an "Outstanding Service Learning Class," following the December giving ceremony which announced $39,000 in gifts to local community partners. Here are two news stories that outlines the results of last year's course: Teaching Generosity Learning About Strategic Philanthropy and Ozarks at Large's UA Course Teaches Value Technique of Philanthropy.
Versions of this exciting course have been offered at UT Austin, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, UWashington, WashingtonU, Cornell University, the University of Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Baylor, Abilene Christian University, TCU, Duke and many other schools.
