Youngblood Appointed Interim Associate Dean for Libraries' Special Collections Division

Joshua Youngblood, director of learning and engagement for the University Libraries Special Collections Division, has been appointed interim associate dean for Special Collections, effective July 16. 

"Joshua's appointment is a critical part of the revitalization of the University Libraries' Special Collections, particularly as their new central and expanded spaces open with the completion of the Mullins Library renovation this fall," said Jason Battles, dean of libraries. "Joshua's commitment to the preservation of the history of the state of Arkansas, along with his extensive work on campus and in our community, positions him for great success in this role."

Youngblood began working for the University Libraries in 2011. During his appointment, he will oversee the return of Special Collections personnel and materials to Level 1 of Mullins Library after renovations are completed. The new space will feature a reading room, dedicated classroom space, a modern processing and preservation area and an expansive exhibit gallery. Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts, a statewide program within the division, will have dedicated offices and a space for recording oral histories. Construction is anticipated to wrap up in late October. 

"This is an exciting time for Special Collections and the libraries, and it's a privilege to be able to help lead during this transition," Youngblood said. "With the new spaces opening, we have a tremendous opportunity to showcase our growing programs and all the ways Special Collections can serve students, staff, faculty and every Arkansan."

Adriana Gonzalez, senior associate dean for research and learning, has been serving as interim associate dean for Special Collections since August 2023. The appointment of Youngblood will enable her to focus fully on the libraries' Research and Learning Division.
