2024 Di Brezzo Award Winners Named by the Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center

Professors Neil Allison and Lindsey Aloia have been named the 2024 Di Brezzo Service to Teaching Award winners by the Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center.

Neil Allison, an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Lindsey Aloia, an associate dean for International Education and associate professor in the Department of Communication, have been chosen as the recipients of the Ro Di Brezzo Service to Teaching Award. Both are faculty members in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. This annual award recognizes faculty who have provided exceptional service to teaching improvement through programs sponsored by the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center.

"Both Neil and Lindsey have shown a long-term commitment to serving other faculty," said Carole Shook, co-director. "They continually seek out faculty development opportunities through programs where they are the leaders and are active participants in TFSC programming as attendees. Both gave presentations this year to new faculty and included tips on how to be successful in the classroom. The programs were rated highly with commenters speaking specifically about the impacts these two educators had on plans to improve teaching for individual participants."

Allison has made many contributions to teaching in his 40-year teaching career at the U of A. He presented "Transforming Your Teaching! Planning-Delivery-Assessment" in 2024, has mentored numerous faculty members and TFSC co-directors in his tenure and given many teaching-related presentations in his career.

Aloia will present at the 2024 Teaching Camp and presented in 2024 at a new faculty event providing advice on how to succeed in teaching, research and service at the U of A. Aloia has been a frequent presenter for the TFSC in her career at the U of A. 

The Di Brezzo Award, named in honor of former Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Ro Di Brezzo, recognizes an individual who has provided outstanding service to campus teaching through programs conducted by the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center. Allison and Aloia will be recognized at the fall teaching awards reception in the fall of 2024 at the Alumni House and will receive a recognition plaque. In addition, as Aloia is an active teacher at the university, she will receive a $500 teaching enhancement grant.
