During the week of April 18, the Consulate of Peru located in Dallas visited the U of A campus. Liliana Trelles, Honorable Consul of Peru in Dallas, is a specialist in international relations as well as security, national development and defense.
Trelles visited the U of A to meet with Lindsey Aloia, the associate dean of the Graduate School and International Education; Mayra Torres, associate director of Special Programs in the Graduate School of International Education; and Sara Parrott, director of the International Students and Scholars Office.
Trelles' visit to the U of A also included a meeting with Latin American and Latine students on Thursday, April 18, at the Latin American and Latino Studies Office, Old Main 203. Trelles gave a talk later that day titled "Positioning Peru in the International Panorama" at Mullins Library.
In addition, the World Languages Digital and Humanities Studio hosted a cultura event organized by the Peruvian Consulate in Dallas. More than 200 people attended this event where traditional Peruvian dances were performed. Erika Almenara, associate professor of Spanish and associate director of the Latin American and Latino Studies program, who coordinated Trelles's visit, emphasized the relevance of creating bridges among our students, the university and the Peruvian community to strengthen our relationship and future collaborations.
This event was made possible due to the generous support of the World Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department and the Latin American and Latino Studies Program.
