Adnan Alrubaye, assistant professor of poultry science, recently received the Bumpers College International Education Award.

The objective of the Outstanding International Education Award is to recognize Bumpers College faculty who have made notable and outstanding contributions to the college's international undergraduate and/or graduate international program that increase the marketability of students to employers and graduate programs.

Alrubaye is passionate about working with international students because of the community they bring to campus.

"International education serves as a bridge, connecting diverse cultures and fostering rich ideas," Alrubaye said. "At the University of Arkansas, we embrace the transformative power of global learning, recognizing that it enhances academic excellence and cultivates a broader understanding of the world."

David Caldwell, department head of poultry science, says Alrubaye's dual appointment in the Cell and Molecular Biology Program enables him to interact with international students in two departments.

"We feel that Dr. Alrubaye is a fitting choice to receive the 2024 Bumpers College International Education Award," Caldwell said. "When one considers his contributions to the highly successful Cell and Molecular Biology Program on campus, along with his engagement and mentorship of international students here and abroad, he aligns well with the criteria for this award."

His personal experience contributes to his dedication to students who share a similar experience, and he believes it is essential to the future of agriculture.

"As an international Iraqi American faculty member, this award means a lot to me, and it is undoubtedly a product of supporting and helping international students and faculty members across campus," Alrubaye said. "In agriculture, exchanging knowledge on an international scale is crucial. Challenges such as food security, climate change and sustainable practices require collaborative efforts that dissolve borders."

Alrubaye was honored to receive this award that recognized his international education efforts.

"This recognition underscores the significance of global perspectives in shaping the future of education and research," Alrubaye said. "Thank you to the University of Arkansas, Bumpers College and the Division of Agriculture for making international education a cornerstone of our mission."
