Jessica Culver, a doctoral student in the College of Education and Health Professions Adult and Lifelong Learning program, has been selected as a member of the 2024 Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship.

The program is a product of a collaboration between National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions, with the cohort consisting of 35 members.

"I am incredibly appreciative of National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions providing this opportunity for educators," Culver said. "I am so proud to be selected for the 2024 Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship, and I look forward to sharing everything I learn."

The fellowship allows educators to go on expeditions to different areas of the world, such as Antarctica, Alaska, Patagonia and more. This year marks the 16th group of fellows. Those selected gain hands-on experience they can bring back to their classroom to help teach the next generation of "planetary stewards."

Culver's expedition begins on June 2, where she will travel along with the National Geographic Quest to Sitka, Alaska. From Sitka, she is set to go to Juneau, Alaska, as a part of the "Exploring Alaska's Coastal Wilderness" Lindblad expedition.

For Culver, this opportunity is something she can't wait to share with her students, and she looks forward to growing as a global educator and using her experience to enhance her teaching.

"I am most looking forward to discovering new connections and knowledge for the classroom while exploring a location that I have never visited," she said.

This is Culver's 21st year of teaching in Arkansas public schools, where she is currently a high school civics/economics and concurrent college credit history course teacher in the Ozark School District.

"As a long-time Arkansas educator, I am devoted to education in The Natural State, and I want to continue to grow my own practice," Culver said.
