Native American Student Association to Host Annual Choctaw Stickball Tournament
The U of A Native American Student Association is having its second annual Choctaw Stickball Tournament on Saturday, April 27, at the University Recreation fields at the northwest corner of Mitchell Street and Razorback Road. The tournament has grown and is now considered the "kickoff" for the stickball seasons in both Oklahoma and Mississippi!
There are currently eight Oklahoma teams and four Mississippi teams entered. This year we are pleased to announce that star women's Razorback basketball player Carly Keats will be present and will be playing with her home team from Choctaw, Mississippi.
This is a rare opportunity to watch the oldest field sport game in America, the grandfather to lacrosse, played by league players. The tournament is co-ed and is made up of teams of 15 people per side. The Native American Student Association has additional sticks and balls so you can try your hand at it!
The admission is free. Competition starts at 10 a.m., so just bring a lawn chair and watch the game that is called "Little Brother to War"!
The tournament is sponsored in part by the American Indian Center of Arkansas, the U of A Multicultural Center and the Native American Student Association.
