The School of Art in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition by Larissa Cheryl Ramey, the footnotes: a love practice. The exhibition will be held at the School of Art Sculpture Studio, SCUL Gallery, located at 744 Hill Avenue, in Fayetteville, April 8-12. All are invited to schedule an appointment with Ramey to view the exhibition and attend a special reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 12.

the footnotes: a love practice delves into the intersection of archival methods, fashion, black style and aesthetic, communal thinking and transformative experiences to unveil a unique narrative of historical significance and contemporary relevance. Through an interdisciplinary approach, Ramey's research explores how Black culture, fashion, music and style are deeply intertwined and influence our communities' socio-cultural evolution, specifically examining the role of art and clothing, as systems or conduits for expression and the archival legacy becoming its own unique mode of transporting.

Ramey investigates a wide array of archival resources, including vintage fashion magazines, photographs, books and both individual and communal oral histories, which reveals the dynamic evolution of Black fashion from the personal to high fashion, shedding light on its profound influence on the mainstream and the use of "fashion/style" as performance during our everyday.

Furthermore, Ramey explores the collaborative efforts between contemporary BIPOC designers, artists, theorists, activists and the clothing's' wearers to emphasize how collective creativity has challenged systemic barriers and shaped a more inclusive fashion landscape through her social-artistic practice by utilizing visual media, performance, textiles, installation, music and collaboration.
