Summer English Language and Culture Classes Open for Enrollment
International students at the U of A can enroll in English Language and Culture courses this summer, offering students the opportunity to hone their academic writing, research and speaking skills.
The two classes, which begin May 28 and end Aug. 1, are:
- "ELAC 5043: Research Writing," from 8:35-10:05 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. This course is a research-based writing class for graduate-level, non-native speakers of English that focuses on the demands of writing in the STEM fields. Students will develop their ability to accurately and effectively use the conventions of scientific writing and will improve their ability to orally present their research.
- "ELAC 5053 International Teaching Assistant Training," from 10:15-11:45 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. This course prepares international graduate assistants to assist or teach in U.S. university classes. The course focuses on enhancing teaching and communication skills and cultural knowledge. This course is for students who are non-native speakers of English who currently have a teaching assistantship or plan to obtain one in the following semester.
"These classes offer a cozy yet academic setting for international students to have open conversations and learn the knowledge and skills they need to succeed at the University of Arkansas," said Joseph Poniatowski, ELAC instructor. "If you're an international student looking to improve your academic writing and research skills or your speaking and presentation skills, look no further than these ELAC courses."
