Screening of Oscar Nominated Short Film Il Moro/The Moor With Discussion With Director Daphne Di Cinto
The Italian Program, in collaboration with the African and African American Studies Program, International and Global Studies Program, the Multicultural Center, the Mullins Library, the Multicultural Center and the Honors College, is organizing the screening of Il Moro/The Moor by the Black, Italian, female Director Daphne di Cinto. Il Moro tells the tale of the untold story of Alessandro de'Medici, the first Duke of Florence in 1530 and the first man of African descent to ascend to head of state during the European Renaissance. The film recounts the tale of de'Medici, while connecting his story to those of so many contemporary Black Europeans.
The film screening will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, in the Multicultural Center classroom (Arkansas Union 403). The film duration is 30 minutes and is in Italian with English subtitles. At 1 p.m., we will connect virtually with the director, Daphne di Cinto, for a Q&A session. Lunch will be provided.
