The School of Art in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition by Vincent "Sniper" Frimpong, The Frimpong Case.

The exhibition will be held at the Studio and Design Center, first floor ceramics hallway, 696 W. Praxis Ln. in Fayetteville, Feb. 19-26. All are invited to schedule an appointment with Frimpong to view the exhibition and attend a special reception Friday, Feb. 23, from 5-7 p.m.

"The Frimpong Case is a testament to a body of work that has grown with me over the three years I have been in the United States," Frimpong said. "I am from Kumasi, Ghana, West Africa. As an African man and immigrant, my art has enabled me to create works that are made in collaboration with fellow Ghanaians and expand on what I, as a multi-disciplinary artist, can bring to a broader audience."

This exhibition is an interactive installation and assemblage-based show that Frimpong has designed to transport its materials, collaborators and the audience on the journey of the road less traveled.

"I want to see and talk about how I am using my art to transform the waste of the Western world to help my people," Frimpong added. "Offering space for the monumental to be recognized as the personal so that the labor of myself and my collaborators are invested in and gives the potential for a new way of making."

In this work, Frimpong gathered the skills and voices of African and African American artists. He collaborated with family and neighbors, his colleagues in the United States and African musicians whom Frimpong credits to having a profoundly influenced his practice. This research furthers his desire to gather the body of work and speak to the themes of collaboration, migration, assemblage and installation.

Frimpong relayed that The Frimpong Case is the root of his visions made real.

View The Frimpong Case Feb. 19-26 at the Studio + Design Center, 969 W. Praxis Ln., by appointment; Vincent "Sniper" Frimpong, vfrimpon@uark.edu or phone at 479-352-7423, and the special reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23.
