U of A Dean Emeritus Reed Greenwood has been selected for the College of Education and Health Professions' inaugural 2024 Dean's Circle of Care Award.
Dean Kate Mamiseishvili created the award to recognize friends and supporters who have exemplified extraordinary care for the college and displayed abundant generosity with their time, guidance and support.
In a letter to Greenwood, Mamiseishvili shared, "You were my first choice due to your unwavering role as a wise sounding board, confidant, adviser and friend as I embarked on the journey of deanship for the college. I can't imagine navigating these initial 18 months without your invaluable kindness, counsel and care."
Greenwood, who served as the dean of the College of Education and Health Professions from 2001 to 2009 and retired in 2014 after a 35-year career with the U of A, will be honored at an evening celebration on March 8. Under his leadership, the college's enrollment increased by over 50%, more than 50 new faculty members were recruited and endowments grew from less than $4 million to over $34 million.
He has continued to give his time and expertise to the college over the years. In 2020, he and his late wife, Mary Ann, established a COVID-19 emergency fund to assist students. He's currently a member of Mamiseishvili's Dean's Executive Advisory Board, which provides counsel and helps advocate for the college's vitality, improvement and growth. He also serves on the Community Education Leadership Council of the Department of Education Reform, the department that Greenwood founded during his deanship and where he served as faculty after he retired as dean.
Greenwood said he continues to care for the college because he's keenly aware of the positive impact of its students, programs, faculty and leadership. He's committed to helping advance the college's mission of caring for all communities in Arkansas and beyond by advancing impactful research, engaging in meaningful partnerships and empowering caring professionals in education and health.
"It's gratifying to receive an award from the college from which you have three degrees and served for over 30 years," Greenwood said, adding, "It is indeed an honor that I will always cherish."
A native of eastern Arkansas, Greenwood earned a B.S.E. in mathematics and social studies, an M.Ed. in education administration and an Ed.D. in counselor education.
"We're thrilled to highlight Dr. Greenwood's loyal commitment and care for the college and its faculty, students and staff," Mamiseishvili said.
